ASSOCIATED MASTERS

I have over the many years of training met up with some incredible martial artists.  Below are some of the Masters that I have been fortunate to train with and learn from.

SENIOR MASTERS

Master David Scott from the British Uechi Ryu Karate Association.  Dave was my Instructor and friend for many years.  I served on the Uechi Ryu Board.  He is still the Chairperson for the association.  A fantastic Instructor who had to show a great deal of patience to get me where I am today.

Master George Dillman from the DKI.  A wonderful charasmatic man with outstanding skill and an even better sense of humour.  I met Master Dillman in North Andover, Boston, USA.  I picked up valuable information from Master Dillman, one thing in particular, let him show techniques on other people.  He is an exceptional Master and kyusho students worldwide have a lot to thank him for.

Masters  Jim Corn and Leon Jay.  Master Jim Corn, if you blink your eyes you'll miss something.  Incredibly fast hands that disguise an immense volumn of skill.  You can not help but to have fun when he is around.  His teaching is as straight as it comes. What you see is what you get and if you have trained with Master Jim Corn you know that statement has more than one meaning.  Finally, Master Leon Jay.  Highly skillful and does everything with a smile.  He is able to deliver pain faster than he can smile and he always has a smile.  Pain and pleasure, that's what happens when he gets hold of you and when he lets go.  All great teachers that make martial arts a joy to learn and practice.

Master George Mattson.  A most knowledgeable Master and most welcoming.  He has so much information to pass on to you and he is able to do so with ease.  Never standing still with his martial arts he is open to all sorts of training methods for the benefit of Uechi Ryu.  Master Mattson possesses a degree of skill to be admired.  Master George Mattson is a pioneer for Uechi Ryu in the Western world.  If there is a chance to train with him, take it.

The Late Grand Master Kanei Uechi.  A truly unique Master.  It was a honour to train with him.  I found him to be a most humble man.  His teaching was precise and exact.  It was a great experience to train and to be graded by him in his own land of Okinawa.  Walking into his dojo for the first time was a wonderful and frightening experience.  During the afternoon training sessions there were only two other people in attendance.  His technique was special.  The first time I saw him performing a kick I hoped that none of them would make contact with me.

OTHER MASTERS

Master Mike Gilhooley from Scotland, standing to my left.  What a great bloke.  A great martial artist.  Mike welcomes everybody and is a real gentleman.  Another open minded skillful Master.  I always look forward to training with, like me he is still able to laugh even when in pain!

There other Masters I would like to put on this page but I don't have pictures of them.  On my next trip I will try to remember to have a photo with them.  I am due to train in Boston shortly so I will hopefully get a photograph of  some  other Masters, one in particular, Master Van Canna.
